Break out the milk steaks and raw jellybeans to celebrate, because It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been renewed for a 15th season, which upon airing will officially make it the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history.

According to Deadline, the news was revealed as part of FX’s original programming slate through 2021, which had been announced on Tuesday morning and was then confirmed by FX’s social media channels. Until now, Always Sunny, which stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito, had been tied with The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series.

The news follows Always Sunny creator, executive producer and star Rob McElhenney telling fans that filming for Season 15 of the iconic comedy series had already begun, saying, “It takes us about five months to make a season of Sunny. We have that period of our lives carved. We’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching,” he said at the Winter TCA press tour.

Earlier this week, McElhinney recently revealed that in the upcoming season, we may potentially expect to see the gang forced to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown restrictions – even though we’ve already seen the debaucherous group quarantine themselves in the bar back in season seven.

“Well, we actually do have an episode called ‘The Gang Gets Quarantined’ where we quarantine ourselves in the bar,” the actor shared to NME earlier this week, adding, “I think there’s a big flu going around Philadelphia or something like that. When we come back, don’t worry, we will address all this in the way only Sunny can!”

McElhenney also reiterated his love for working on the hilarious series, saying, “How many years do I have on this planet? I’ll do it forever. I never understand why people leave shows. I don’t. I never understand that. The show is what I dreamed of doing my entire life. I don’t take it for granted. And if they keep paying me and the audience keeps watching it and I still love it… why would I ever stop?”

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s 15th season is set to air in 2021.
