James Gunn reveals that he has “tons” of unused footage to use from Peacemaker Season 1 and teases cameos to come.

Peacemaker Season 1 SPOILER WARNING for the end of the show’s finale

In HBO Max’s surprise hit Peacemaker, a massive surprise cameo came in the season’s finale in the form of four members of the Justice League showing up in the aftermath of Peacemaker exterminating the Butterfly forces.

As the group walked away from the rubble, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Superman showed up as silhouettes just a minute too late. Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller’s faces were the only ones to be seen out of the four characters, as the two exchanged a series of quips around whether Aquaman has sex with fish or not.

The cameo was received positively by fans, who are in for more of those good cameos in future seasons and potential spinoffs according to James Gunn.

“I have tons of stuff I didn’t use,” Gunn says. “Ezra went on – and I’m not kidding – for 16 minutes about Aquaman having sex with fish. It was really funny.”

Fans of Peacemaker, which I was, would probably love to see more of that footage from what we were given in the show. Gunn continues, explaining how the cameo came to fruition and what we can expect to see in the future.

“It was done through pure force of will on my part, of really pushing it to happen,” Gunn explains. “I think everybody read it in the script, agreed to it, and then it became [a thing], and they realized what a big fucking deal it was.”

“I think we’re going to see more connections in some other stuff as we move forward with Peacemaker and other shows at HBO Max. So those [cameos] will keep coming,” Gunn says. “I don’t know if the Justice League is going to show up in every season of Peacemaker; that might be a one-time thing. We’ll see!”

Peacemaker is available to stream on HBO Max in the US and just became available in the UK as well.
