Peanut butter and jam. Tequila and salt. Biggie and Tupac. Some things were made to go together.

Want more proof? Then just take the recent partnership between whiskey giants Jameson and local favourites Young Henrys. The two alcohol titans have teamed up to release a brand new whiskey, their version of Jameson’s wildly successful Caskmates line. Caskmates, itself a collaboration between Jameson and the Franciscan Well brewery, has been an extraordinary success so far, and the new Young Henrys version is surely only going to continue that trend.

Aged in craft beer barrels, the Caskmates Young Henrys edition has a rich, ever so slightly smoky flavour, and is perfect knocked back on the rocks – or, alternatively, teamed up with a cheeky Young Henrys Newtowner to wash it down.

Young Henrys founder Oscar McMahon had this to say about the epic team-up: “It’s a rare gem in this life to get the opportunity to create something you love with people you ultimately respect. Young Henrys prides itself on being an open minded and forward thinking group who are happy to work with other people towards shared goals instead of always just pushing our own agenda. To make a whiskey barrel aged beer and then subsequently release a ‘beer barrel aged’ whiskey with the fine people of Jameson has been a truly humbling, inspirational experience.

“A celebration of malt, of barrels borrowed and of values shared. May you take your product seriously, yourself lightly and always be surrounded by likeminded souls.”

Trust us, that’s not all waffle either – the whiskey really is as good as that all makes it sound. It’s also a perfect summer drink: as the days get longer, you’ll wanna relax by the pool and knock back whiskey and beer, preferably while blasting Mungo Jerry’s ‘In The Summertime’.

A bottle of Caskmates will set you back $59.99, and will be available at Vintage Cellars exclusively from early October onwards. For more info, head over to the Young Henrys website, here.
