The world of music is shrouded in mystery. Whether it’s folks questioning if Kendrick Lamar was going to release a secret follow-up album to DAMN., or if it’s people being surprised that Frank Ocean had another record up his sleeve besides Blonde, some artists can be pretty sneaky with the music they record. Now, we’ve received proof that a record has been made by one of the most powerful couples in music – but will we ever get to hear it?
Yes, Jay-Z has confirmed the rumours that he and his wife Beyoncé have in fact recorded music together, but he has not revealed how, when, or even if fans will ever get the chance to give it a listen.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Jay-Z discussed a multitude of topics, including the infidelity within their marriage that required copious amounts of therapy to overcome. In fact, some fans had viewed Beyoncé’s 2016 record Lemonade as her way of coping with their troubles, while others have viewed Jay-Z’s 2017 record 4:44 the same way.
Upon being asked about the process through both he and Beyoncé made rather open, confessional albums, Jay-Z responded by stating that “We were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together.”
“And then the music she was making at that time was further along. So her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on,” he continued. “We still have a lot of that music. And this is what it became. There was never a point where it was like, ‘I’m making this album.’ I was right there the entire time.”
While Jay-Z has offered fans no indication as to when, if ever, the album that he and Beyoncé made, we think he might be a little preoccupied with his eight Grammy nominations to even think about that right now. Either way, this fabled Bey-Z record is just another piece of unheard musical history that we’re dying to hear.
