One of Australia’s leading acoustic viola da gambist (a seven-string, bowed instrument with fretts that kinda looks like a cello) – Jenny Eriksson – has announced the launch of her new improvisation project, Elysian Fields.

The new band will feature Eriksson on the electric viola da gamba in what is believed to be a local and national first for the improvised music scene.

Alongside her highly regarded classical chamber performances, Eriksson has in past collaborated with such jazz musicians as Kevin Hunt, Matt McMahon and Matt Keegan.

Elysian Fields will play their debut atFoundry 616onWednesday November 25.
