In news that will no doubt delight his legion of fans, professional wrestler turned actor John Cena is set to star in an upcoming Suicide Squad TV series.
Cena will not only be taking on the role of ‘Peacemaker’ in the upcoming cinematic sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, but will also be reprising the part in an eight-hour spin-off TV series.
The series, to be titled Peacemaker, will expand on the character from the 2021 The Suicide Squad movie and explore his backstory.
Both the upcoming movie and TV series will be directed by James Gunn, the filmmaker behind Guardians of the Galaxy.
“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag,” said Gunn in a statement.
“I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cena said it was a “tremendous honour” to be a part of the franchise.
