British-American cybersecurity pioneer John McAfee has announced that he’s planning to run for the role of US President in 2020, a race which at this point also seems to also include professional wrestler Jonathon Sharkey and thriller novelist Brad Thor.
While John McAfee appears to currently be embroiled in some sort of meme war on his Twitter account, the crypto-currency giant took time out of his busy schedule to announce that after a failed run for office in 2016, he is planning to enter the US Presidential race for 2020.
“In spite of past refusals, I have decided to again run for POTUS in 2020,” wrote McAfee on Twitter. “If asked again by the Libertarian party, I will run with them. If not, I will create my own party. I believe this will best serve the crypto community by providing the ultimate campaign platform for us.”

While McAfee did indeed run for the Libertarian Party in 2016, it appears that whether or not he gets their endorsement, he is planning to run on a platform that heavily endorses the use of crypto-currency, a topic that is so close to his heart that he has become one of the most trusted commentators on the topic in recent times.
This news also comes just days after McAfee announced that he is planning to release a physical cryptocurrency called the ‘McAfee Redemption Unit’ (MRU), which appears to be completely unrelated to the seemingly-defunct cryptocurrency he released last year, called McAfee Coin.

While it seems that the kinks are still being worked out in regards to McAfee’s new physical cryptocurrency (such as how that very concept works exactly, and how it’s all supposed to be rolled out), it definitely appears that his 2020 Presidential run is going to see cryptocurrency feature heavily in his campaign process alongside his Libertarian views, which aim to do away with unnecessary laws and institutions.
Needless to say, whether you’re a fan of cryptocurrency or not, John McAfee appears to be the loose cannon that everyone will have their eyes on when the Presidential race formally begins.
