In some chaotic yet delightful news, Julia Gillard’s iconic ‘misogyny’ speech got a spin as part of the triple j ‘Requestival’.

That’s right, despite not actually containing any music, the now infamous 2012 speech was played in its entirety to triple j listeners today.

Although it’s not exactly a conventional choice, there’s no doubt the speech is considered one of the most memorable Australian political moments of all time.

Just in case you need a refresher, it was delivered when the opposition leader at the time Tony Abbott accused then-Prime Minister Gillard of sexism, which she evidently did not appreciate.

Meanwhile, the return of the week-long Requestival has led to some other decidedly wacky choices, including footy theme songs, meme-ified tunes and tracks that would clearly never usually be played on triple j.

Some of this year’s highlights have included ‘Gia’s Sad Song’ from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, which went viral on TikTok, and ‘Can I Borrow a Feeling?’ of The Simpsons fame.

With the event set to continue until this Friday, May 14th, I know I’ll personally be holding out for some more classics from The Simpsons back catalogue to make an appearance.
