Last week, the hugely contentious trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard finally came to an end after weeks of terrible TikToks and intensely strange coverage.

The jury eventually decided that Heard had defamed her ex-husband. The jury – yes, the same jury – also found that Heard had also been defame in a counter-lawsuit. Murky doesn’t even begin to describe the outcome.

Maybe the jury’s sleeping habits had something to do with it. According to The Hill, its alleged that some jury members occasionally dozed off during the trial.

One of the trial’s stenographers, Judy Bellinger, insisted to Law & Crime Network that she noticed some of the 12-strong jury not paying close attention at various points.

“There were a few jurors that were dozing off,” she alleged, although she wasn’t without sympathy. “It was tough because there was a lot of video deposition,” she added. “And they’d just sit there, and all of the sudden I’d see their head drop.”

If I was facing up to the possibility of having to pay an ex millions of dollars in damages and I caught the jury responsible having a crafty nap, I’d be very unhappy. Didn’t these jurors know that they might be in a TikTok edit?

Heard is reportedly already considering appealing the trial’s outcome, so here’s hoping they can find some more alert jury members if that does happen. It’s unclear if she can afford another expensive trial, however, with Depp being awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from the actress.

Heard was given a comparatively paltry $2 million in damages in her countersuit against the former Pirates of the Caribbean star.  “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband,” she said after the verdict.
