The performance will transform the gardens as part of an art installation project that will run across a month.
The performance, entitled barrangal dyara (skin and bones), is a response to the loss felt throughout Australia due to the destruction of these culturally significant items.
The performance will take place within the footprint of the original Garden Palace building along Macquarie Street, demarcated by a new major sculptural and sound installation created by Jones. The performance, which is a part of a larger art project, will transform the gardens into a sculptural installation across 20,000 square metres, incorporating native kangaroo grassland and thousands of white shields.
The project will also run presentations of Aboriginal language, performances, talks, special events and workshops each day.
The special collaboration with Bangarra Dance Theatre Company will be a free performance on Thursday September 22. The entire project program runs from Saturday September 17 to Monday October 3 in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden, and it’s also free to the public. For more information visit the website.
