Aussie influencer Karina Irby, who was trolled for dancing with her stepdad in a bikini, has clapped back against the hate.
Queensland-based influencer Karina Irby has slammed the backlash she received for posting a video of herself dancing in a bikini in front of her stepfather.
Over Christmas weekend, Irby – who runs a body-positivity Tiktok account and owns a bikini line – posted a video of herself dancing to Britney Spears’ ‘Work B***h’. Her stepfather, also in swimwear, can be seen in the background – he eventually also joins her in dancing.
While many interpreted Irby’s video as what it was – harmless fun – her comments were inundated by users calling her behaviour ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disturbing’.
According to the social media star, though, the hate doesn’t bother her. “No matter what you do on social media these days, someone will always find a way to bring you down, or in this case, project their insecurities or issues upon you,” she told News.com.au.
“But, in this case, the facts are pretty simple. My stepdad and I have a great, normal relationship. We both have a good sense of humour and like to do stupid things to make others laugh.“ she added.
Irby also went on to explain that her attire was perfectly normal in their home. Thanks to her being the owner of her own bikini line, she ‘lives in bikinis’.
“It’s a hot Australian Christmas and our family spent it by the pool, hence the swimwear,” she said. “This kind of stuff is like water off a duck’s back to me. If you don’t read the comments, they don’t exist.”
She did express her frustration with the internet’s obsession over a perfectly normal and healthy daughter-stepfather relationship. “But I do find it kind of funny – and a little bit sad – that so many people are spending their festive season getting angry on the internet, when they should be having fun with their family.” she said.
