No need to worry about your friend stealing your portion of black truffle prawn balls that you’ve dropped into the hot pot, because Kew’s Chef David is serving up individual hot pots with a bit of a twist – endless ingredients on a sushi train.

How many times have you done hot pot with friends for it to end in a bit of a crazy mess? Between having to ladle out the soup into bowls, fishing around for the bit of mushroom you dropped in only to find your friend’s portion of cuttlefish, it’s just not as relaxing of an experience as it should be.

Well, Chef David’s new location in Kew is serving up hot pot in a new, exciting way, and that means making sure each person gets their own individual hot pot. Served at a rotating sushi bar, there’s a cook plate right in front of you where you can choose not only your soup base of choice, but choose an array of scrumptious, fresh ingredients from an endless rotating conveyor.

Called Shabu Shabu, your first choice is to choose between their savoury (and sometimes spicy!) soup bases. With tomato and ox tail, chicken and fish maw soup, laksa broth, and a slew of other flavours, your individual hot pot is set right in front of you, meaning there’s no need to reach halfway across the table just to get some grub.

After your hot pot is bubbling away, you’ll be ready for the endless array of both cooking and ready-to-eat ingredients that line the sushi train. With choices like fish tofu squares, prawn dumplings, lamb or beef rolls, and even quail eggs and veggies, there is no end to the flavour combinations that can be created.

On top of that, guests who choose Shabu Shabu even get a complimentary glass of wine, tasting menu for starts with options like fresh live lobster sashimi, prawns and squid in creamy lobster bisque, thick cut coral trout, and an array of wagyu beef to boot, an endless sauce creation station, as well as delicious matcha cheesecake to round out the evening.

Keen to bubble away with your own individual hot pot, or even simply order from their a la carte menu? Chef David’s newest location in Kew is absolutely the spot to be at, and you surely won’t be disappointed.
