Kim Kardashian has bought an outfit Janet Jackson wore in her 1993 ‘If’ music video at an auction for over AUD $32,000 (USD $25,000).

In honour of Janet Jackson’s 55th birthday over the weekend, Kim Kardashian revealed that she was the mysterious bidder on the memorable outfit.

“Happy birthday queen!” Kim Kardashian wrote on her Instagram Story, along with a clip of Janet Jackson wearing the ensemble.

“For @janetjackson’s bday bc I’m such a fan I can’t believe I won this on @juliens_auctions.”

Jackson replied to Kardashian via her own Instagram Story, saying: “Thank u so much @kimkardashian! I hope ‘IF’ gives u as much pleasure as it did me.”

Prior to Kardashian’s Instagram declaration, auction house Julien’s Auctions announced that the outfit — a custom-made cropped top with artificial bone detailing and a pair of black lace-up pants — had sold for AUD $32,000.

“SOLD for $25,000! A custom-made top with a pair of black pants, both worn by Janet Jackson in her 1993 award-winning “If” music video. Sold in our “Iconic Treasures from the Legendary Career and Life of Janet Jackson” auction,” Julien’s Auctions tweeted

The auction took place over three days and concluded on Jackso’s birthday, Sunday, May 16th. A portion of the proceeds have gone towards Compassion International, a non-profit organisation that provides humanitarian aid to impoverished children.

“Can’t believe this will be the last time I’ll see some of these items, but it’s for a good cause,” Jackson recently said in a video announcing the sale.

Meanwhile, if you thought Kardashian‘s new clothes were pricy, the outfit Jackson wore in the 1995 video for ‘Scream’ sold for over AUD $161,000 (USD $125,000).

Well, if that doesn’t make Kardashian’s purchase look bargain basement in comparison, we don’t know what does.
