Kylie Jenner – whose net worth sits around the US$1 billion mark – is being criticised for leaving “a $20 tip on a $500 dinner bill”.

News of the tiny tip has gone viral after an old TikTok video and tweet was uncovered. “Thinking about the time “billionaire” Kylie Jenner & her friends left a $20 tip on a $500 dinner bill at my old job,” former hostess Julia Carol Ann, adding rich ppl are so embarrassing I stg”.

A $20 tip on a $500 meal works out to be a tip of 4%. In America, a standard tip is expected to be around the 15-20% mark.

Jenner’s tight tip was discussed on Reddit, and the thread has already racked up over 2000 comments in just four hours.

“Kylie Jenner is probably a stingy asshole and very clearly has the extra $100 laying around,” one user wrote. Another added, “In the context of the US this is a really crappy thing to do for any one but specially someone like her” [sic].

In the same thread, Reddit users discussed the personal experiences that they have had with celebrities tipping service workers. One user said that Jim Carrey generously tipped his co-worker $1000 on a $140 bill.

“At a place I managed in Manhattan, Jim Carrey came in for dinner and had a guest, the server was asked by the person with Jim if they were a NYC native, or, and what they were interested in. They both listened as the server mentioned where he had come from originally, and that he wanted to be an actor.

“The bill came to $140 and he left the server a $1000 Gratuity in cash with a handwritten note on the bill saying “ Remember you are unique, and when you act, you are giving what nobody else can, because there is only one you. Good luck,” he wrote.

Another agreed that they’d experienced Carrey’s generosity too, writing: “I used to work in a hotel in Mendocino, CA and Jim Carey was in town filming a movie. He came to hotel and a couple of times and got known for being a big tipper. Like $100 tip regardless of what was ordered. He kept to himself from what I heard and was very kind all around. Sounds like the legend is true no matter where he goes.”
