Last week, it was announced that a Blockbuster store on the outskirts of Perth was closing it’s doors at the end of the month. The closure of this outlet will mean that there will be one single Blockbuster left standing on the face of this earth.

That Blockbuster, located in Bend, Oregon, is the last remaining fossil of the once great entertainment titan.Time has reported that the store remains adorned with “popcorn ceilings” and “IBM computers from 1992.” One hope that this generations obsession with nostalgia will keep is enough to keep that candle burning.

“It was pretty exciting to know that we had outlasted everyone else,” store manager Sandi Harding share with Time. “But then as soon as I got excited, I also realized that someone is losing their job somewhere and that we’re losing another Blockbuster store. It’s just us left, which means that we’re just that much closer to being completely gone and that’s just so sad.”

Harding is adamant that the devoted customers of the Oregon store will keep it alive. Harding believes that the classic titles on offer are the store’s “bread and butter”.

“You can go to Redbox and you can get the new titles, but they don’t have the older ones,” Harding shared. “Netflix and Amazon don’t have everything, either.”

To pay homage to the great Blockbuster, our very own Culture Kids made a video eulogising it’s legacy, watch it below.
