Laurence Fishburne was recently asked about his thoughts on The Matrix Resurrections and said, “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.”

While attending Geeked Week for his new film The School for Good and Evil, Laurence Fishburne was asked by Variety if he has had the chance to watch the latest installment in the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections. Fishburne revealed that he has in fact seen the movie and even gave his thoughts on the film.

His review was similar to the critical reception of the movie— not scathing but also underwhelmed. Fishburne was of course not included in the film, with his character Morbius being filled in by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Fishburne also revealed that he holds no regrets about being left out of the most recent Matrix film.

The film also brought an interesting bit of information out of Nicolas Cage as well, who said that he was originally offered to be in The Matrix.

In a new interview with PEOPLE, Cage revealed that it was because of his family he said no to acting in the two films. “First and foremost… there’s no version of Nic Cage in reality that doesn’t want to spend time with his children,” he said. “There’s no version of Nic Cage that didn’t put family first over career.

I turned down Lord of the Rings and I turned down Matrix because I didn’t want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that’s a fact.”

He added: “So there is a huge disparity between that Nick Cage in Massive Talent and the Nic Cage sitting in front of you right now.”
