It’s been four years since the second season of Aziz Ansari’s critically-acclaimed comedy series, Master of None, was released and its finally set to make its highly-anticipated return to Netflix.

As Chortle report, the forthcoming season is set to take place in London, where Aziz Ansari has been living recently. The forthcoming third season quietly started filming last year, but the production of the series was put on hold amid the coronavirus pandemic. There’s been no official word as to when we can expect the series to hit the streaming service.

Joining the cast of season three is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actress Naomi Ackie, who we reckon may play a potential future love interest for our leading man. Lena Waithe will reportedly reprise her role as Dev’s friend Denise. And we assume (and hope) that Eric Wareheim and Kelvin Yu will also return. Though details remain murky at this point.

It’s been a tumultuous few years for Aziz Ansari, after sexual misconduct allegations made against series co-creator, director and star came to light in 2018.

In the year following the accusation, Aziz kept a low profile before returning to Netflix in 2019 for his Spike Jonze-directed comedy special, Aziz Ansari: Right Now. The special saw Aziz address the allegations made against him at the very beginning of the performance.

“I’m sure there’s some of you that are curious how I feel about that whole situation,” the comedian says. “I felt so many things in the last year or so: There’s times I felt scared, there’s times I felt humiliated, there’s times I felt embarrassed, and ultimately I just felt terrible that this person felt this way.”

The future of Master of None was shrouded in uncertainty following an interview with Vulture in 2017 in which Aziz Admitted, “I don’t know if we’re going to do a season 3… I wouldn’t be surprised if I needed a long break before I could come back to it.”

He continued, “I’ve got to become a different guy before I write a third season, is my personal thought, I’ve got to get married or have a kid or something. I don’t have anything else to say about being a young guy being single in New York eating food around town all the time.”
