Love Island Australia is heading back to the sunny shores of Mallorca, Spain for season four.

Channel Nine has confirmed that the popular reality show will be renewed for a fourth season and that Sophie Monk will join the singles in Spain as the host.

“I’m so excited to be back as host of Love Island Australia, and with overseas holidays finally coming into view I can’t wait to return to beautiful Mallorca to see what’s in store for our brand-new Islanders, ” Monk said of her return to the show.

The first season of Love Island Australia was filmed in Mallorca, season two was filmed in Fiji and season three was filmed in Byron Bay due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

The reality show follows a group of attractive and single men and women who live in a luxury villa together. While in the villa, they must couple up with fellow contestants in an attempt to find love.

Couples are narrowed down to the final four with the highest potential for romantic success. The public then votes for their favourite couple, and both of the winning couples are given envelopes. However, only one of the envelopes contains the prize money. The winner who opens the envelope with the money can choose to keep it or share it with their partner.

While Love Island is a popular show in Australia, it doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to lasting romances.

Season 1 winners Tayla and Grant broke up shortly after the show when Tayla found out that Grant had a secret girlfriend. Season 2 winners Josh and Anna stayed together for a little over a year, before calling it quits and Season 3 winners Mitch and Tina only lasted a couple of months after the show.

In fact, the only couple that’s still together out of all three seasons is season one couple, Josh Moss and Amelia Marni who are still happily together four years after falling in love on the show.

But, while the relationship success rate is low, the majority of islanders how managed to rack up their followers and lock in some lucrative spon con deals.

Love Island is currently casting for season four, and interested applicants can apply here.
