Most Love island fans understandably assumed that it was the producer’s idea to send Mads and Hugh into the villa as ‘secret twins’. Especially because the same secret sibling storyline was run on Love Island America season four with Bria and Chazz.

However, Mads told So Dramatic! that she and Hugh actually auditioned separately, and it was their idea to initially hide the fact that their were twins from their fellow islanders.

“We applied and auditioned separately. I didn’t actually know that Hugh had applied. We both put each other’s names down in our application [as contact references],” Mads told the publication.

She added, “It just so happened to be coincidentally we both got the email saying we’ve got through.”

“We just basically rocked up to audition. We auditioned separately and then they brought him to audition together,”

Once Mads and Hugh had both gotten the tick of approval to be on the show, they suggested that they kept their sibling status a secret from the other cast members.

“We came up with the idea when we went in. It’s a bit of a point of difference being twins, so going in there, having to think a story and go along with it was definitely tricky,” Mads explained.

“It was definitely hard because Hugh is such a big part of my life,” she told us.

However, Mads said that she’s glad that the twins decided to reveal their relation early on in their time in the villa.

“I’m glad we let the secret out when we did because I feel like I couldn’t have carried it out any longer. I couldn’t really relax [during] conversations because it was hanging over my shoulders.”

Mads made it to the final with her partner Callum, while Hugh was paired up with Stella, who he left with a week before the finale.
