Unlike previous seasons of Love Island, the current season was pre-recorded and many fans of the show are missing the interaction of being able to vote for their favourite – or least favourite – islanders.
However, an executive producer has finally explained the very simple reason the season wasn’t aired live. During an interview on the TV Reload podcast the Supervising Executive Producer for Love Island Australia, Alex Mavroidakis explained the weather would be too cold for Islanders to film in bikinis in November.
“[There’s] so much drama, so much funny and of course, it’s all different; it’s pre-recorded,” Alex said of Love Island Australia season four.
“Which obviously it had to be because Nine wanted it on at this time of the year. If we filmed in Spain [now], we’d be wearing snow jackets instead of bikinis, so we had to pre-record it.”
Alex revealed that it’s the first time any version of Love Island – including the international iterations – has pre-recorded the show ahead of screening.
“It feels the same; it looks the same. We still shoot an episode a day, and we’ve still edited an episode a day. It’s basically exactly the same. The only thing we had to do was the audience voting.”
He added that not many people voted in previous seasons. “Really, hardly anyone voted; let’s be honest about it,” he said.

Love Island Australian season four is half way through it’s second week, and a familiar face enters the villa tonight. MAFS fan favourite Al Perkins will join the other Islanders as a bombshell, who’s mission is to break already formed couples up on his journey to find love.
Al, who didn’t manage to find love with his on-screen wife Samantha Moitzi on Married at First Sight, has said that he has faith that he’ll find ‘the one’ on Love Island Australia.
“I do believe Love Island is the right show to find love. There have been successful couples that have come out in love in the past,” he said.
He added, “I’m most excited to test myself to see if I can fall in love with someone.”
Love Island season four is currently airing 6 pm Monday – Thursday on 9Now.
