Love Triangle star Matt Phelan has denied having a secret girlfriend during the show, and then cheating on her with co-star Madi Clarke.

Love Triangle star Matt Phelan has hit back at claims that he had a secret girlfriend while he was filming the show, and then cheated on her with his co-star Madi Clarke.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia in an interview, Phelan revealed that while he’d spent the ‘initial process’ of the show with his ex-girlfriend, he was single when on to film.

“I met [my ex] the day before I was told I’d actually be on the show. I accepted but chose to see her again,” he told the publication. “I was open about the show I’d be going on and that I’d be fully giving myself to it. She accepted that but feelings grew.”

Last week, Phelan’s alleged ex-girlfriend anonymously revealed to So Dramatic! that the two had been dating during Phelan’s stint on the show, and that he would ‘sneak off’ the set to meet up with her. “We actually met, then he got the phone call the next day to say that he made [it onto] the show,” she told So Dramatic!, corroborating Phelan’s timeline as well. “So we were just kind of dating and taking it easy.”

Phelan’s alleged former partner, however, claimed that by the time filming started, they’d become serious about each other. When Phelan was dumped by Lisa Leaño, the couple allegedly celebrated him leaving the show. By the time the producers brought him back as an ‘intruder’, Phelan had allegedly told her he was in love with her.

The alleged ex then went on to claim that when the show started airing, Phelan ‘developed a bit of an ego.’ After the couple returned from a trip to Bali – which coincided with the end of the show – Phelan met up with his co-stars for a wrap party and allegedly cheated on his girlfriend with Madi Clarke. “Everyone from the show had caught up on a Friday night to have drinks, and that’s when he cheated on me with Madi.” she told So Dramatic!.

“I stayed at his house after that… I thought things are a bit off. Then, by the Wednesday, he just broke up with me and said I was more in love with him than he was with me,” she said. “[He said] that I was the best girlfriend he’d ever had but he just doesn’t want to hurt me. So yeah, I was pretty devastated.”
