Maccas has apologised to customers after many have complained that their new potato scallops with chicken salt are “always unavailable”.
The fast food chain released potato scallops earlier this month, billing them as “a true Aussie icon, the perfect combination of crunchy tempura coating and fluffy potato.”
While some people were adamant that the salty treat should be called a potato cake, many took the plunge and tried the interesting new snack regardless.
However, since their inital release, social media users have taken to Twitter to complain about the lack of availability of the potato scallops.
“Maccas potato scallops are a myth, they’re always unavailable,” one user wrote. A second penned, “I went around to McDonalds here in Bundaberg, Australia, the other day, looking to buy a few potato scallops and they were SOLD OUT! I was pissed off. I felt like Rodney.”
A third social media user tweeted, “Did @maccas give up on potato scallop/cake/fritters already?? :(“. The person behind McDonald’s social media account took the time to reply and said the lack of availability of the item is due to its popularity.
“hey Matt, thanks for reaching out! our Potato Scallops have been super popular, so it may be a bit tricky to get your hands on them you can always check availability on the MyMacca’s app before heading in :),” the Maccas account tweeted.

However, many other users have taken to the platform to share their unsavoury opinions about the potato scallops.
“Well they sell those terrible potato scallops things in maccas. If you want a potatcake , go to your local fish and chip shop. Yum” one wrote. Another said: “threw up from the potato scallops at maccas, i don’t recommend.” A third tweeted, “You’re better off without them, mate.”
