This year’s MAFS is arguably one of the most polarising – and popular – shows to ever feature on Australian TV.

However, the show has been axed from American network Lifetime mid-way through season nine. The move has left American viewers fuming and they’ve vented their frustrations on social media.

The season started airing on Lifetime, but was pulled off the cable channel halfway through and was only available to view on the channel’s app. Some viewers assumed that the move was a tactic to encourage viewers to download the app.

“Had to get the Lifetime app to find Married at First Sight Australia. @lifetimetv I need answers to what’s going on. #MarriedatfirstsightAustralia,” One user wrote on Twitter.

Others demanded answers about the show’s relegation.

“This is ridiculous! Why start airing it in the first place?” Wrote on fan on Instagram. Another added on Twitter “Lifetime broadcasts half the AU Married at First Sight season and then quits. Please broadcast on your cable network the rest of the married at 1st sight Australia season episodes. Any time, any day of the week.” A third said, “Lifetime is whacked showing fluff instead of airing the next episode of Married at First Sight Australia.”

One very mad former viewer wrote, “This is the most ridiculous thing you could have done… especially right in the middle of the season.

“Whoever was in charge of this decision should pull their head from their lower end. BRING IT BACK.”

Season nine of MAFS dominated ratings in Australia, averaging a TV audience of 1.9 million viewers per episode. While the audience was considerably lower in the US, clocking in at around 300,000 viewers, it was still a huge number for a non-native reality show.
