MAFS star Connie Crayden, who is two years sober, has slammed her friends for pressuring her into drinking alcohol on Christmas last year.

Crayden recounted the incident in a story on Instagram, through which she also marked six months of being sober. Recalling her journey to cutting alcohol out of her life, she remarked how social instances such as Christmas meant greater peer pressure for recovering alcoholics.

“In the last two years I’ve really phased out alcohol from my life. I remember last Christmas day on the way to lunch I made a comment that I think I would like to stay sober for the day, in response to that I was met with so much hostility. I was told I’m not showing respect, I’m selfish and ‘it’s fucking rude’.” she wrote.

She went on to recall how the ‘hostility’ from her friends forced her to consume alcohol – she could only stop once she’d been deemed as having consumed an ‘acceptable’ amount of liquor.

“As you can imagine I was so shocked that my decision to be sober could offend someone so much (still shocked today). Of course I felt pressured to drink and only a few drinks in I ended up with a pounding headache and that’s when it was ‘acceptable’ to start drinking water,” she said.

Marking six months of being alcohol-free, Crayden remarked how she would not have let her friends treat her this way had the encounter happened recently. “Now that I live a completely alcohol free lifestyle I wouldn’t have allowed myself to be treated like that and should have just left,” she said.
