MAFS groom Josh has defended her TV ex-wife Melissa after she bought him to tears in last night’s commitment ceremony.

During the episode, Josh told experts John Aiken and Mel Schilling and Alessandra Rampolla that Melissa had questioned his manhood and “controlled” him by attempting to restrict his access to TV and his mobile phone. Throughout the current season of MAFS, Melissa has also called Josh out for not wanting to be intimate with her enough.

Viewers lashed out at Mel, calling her out online over her actions, and many hurled insults her way. However, when asked if he had a message for the Australian public Josh has stuck up for Mel, and asked fans to stop “attacking her”.

“Not necessarily [a message] to Melissa but just you know, the Australian public maybe just stop attacking her and bullying her online. I don’t enjoy reading any of those comments. It doesn’t raise me up or make me feel good in myself in any way. So yeah, that’s probably I’d say that more for the public than Melissa,” he said on Fitzy and Wippa radio show this morning.

Josh added that while he hadn’t spoken to Melissa since the controversial episode aired last night, he has accepted the apology she gave him while filming.

“She apologized on the couch,” he said. “And so you know, I’ve got to take it at face value. I hope that there’s a bit of a reflection, you know, the way that she behaved in the way that maybe she treated me and the things that she said and that’s probably only a question that she could answer fairly.”

He added, “I haven’t heard from Mel today. We all we all have their own life and I’m sure she’s doing things and that’s up to her to decide.”
