An American woman has designed and is manufacturing a unique, Harry Potter-themed face mask.
Stefanie Hook, a Colorado-based artist, has created a face mask modelled off Harry’s Marauder’s Map. When the person wearing the mask breathes, the map slowly reveals itself as it does in the film and book series.
The masks are 100% cotton and take Stefanie Hook up to 17 hours to make.
“There are so many scenes in these movies and in the books of course that inspire us to see magic within the world,” she explained to Buzzfeed.
“So through a little bit of research and some pigmentation magic, I was able to integrate it into a mask.”
The masks first caught the attention of Harry Potter fans on TikTok earlier in May.
The masks aren’t medical-grade, but that just means they aren’t able to be used in hospitals. They’re still an effective (and magical) way to slow the spread of coronavirus in the community.

Unsurprisingly, the masks are currently sold out. However, according to her website, Colorado Pony Express, Hook is restocking them any day now. Buzzfeed reported that Hook will add “more themes” to her facemask inventory when she restocks the Marauder’s Map design.
According to People, The Marauder’s Map begins to reveal itself once the temperature inside the mask reaches around 27.8 degrees celsius.
The Marauder’s Map first appeared in the third instalment of the series, Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban. Fred and George Weasley give Harry the mask as a way of tracking the footsteps of people within Hogwarts.
Harry soon learns that Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter created the map while they were students at Hogwarts. It reappears in films and books later in the series.
