It’s time to roll out the rainbow carpet again, as Sydney is gearing up for the 23rdMardi Gras Film Festival.

Queer Screen has revealed its much-anticipated program for its 2016 event. And the news is good. There will be a raft of Australian premieres, award winners and an Oscar contender will be lighting up this year’s silver screen.

Seven Aussie premieres will feature on the program this year. The award-winningSummertime is set toopen the festival with a sensual story set in 1970s France. Another highlight is the hauntingly beautiful How To Win At Checkers (Every Time), Thailand’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Academy Awards.

Other highlights include black comedyAddicted To Fresco,starringOrange Is The New Black‘sNatasha Lyonne;Liz In September,a Venezuelan lesbian film;andComing In, the latestcomedy from the director and star of gay classicSummer Storm.

Documentaryfans should keep an eye out forRemembering The Man, which tells the tragic tale of Australian lovers Timothy Conigrave and John Caleo.
