A Trump campaign adviser recently compared VP nominee Kamala Harris’s voice to Marge Simpson. The Simpsons character has since responded.
Before anyone can say “The Simpsons predicted this” the animated world has crossed into reality and the battle lines are being drawn. CNN reported that Jenna Ellis, a Trump campaign lawyer and adviser, recenty trolled presumptive Democrat nominee Kamala Harris by saying her voice sounded like Marge Simpson.
Oh, please. Patty and Selma are the signature, raspy-voiced characters on The Simpsons. Ellis could even have compared Harris (not that she should, but if she did) to Fran Drescher. The beloved Nanny was famous for nasal tones and yes, this is the level of petty we need to defend.
The Simpsons are known for their political flavour in their episodes, with Mayor Quimby an obvious parody of John F. Kennedy. But this is Marge Simpson we’re talking about, and yes, she’s fictional but I am having none of it. Neither is the character.
On Friday, the show’s verified Twitter account tweeted a video of Marge’s response.

“I usually don’t get into politics, but the president’s senior adviser Jenna Ellis just said Kamala Harris sounds like me,” the character said, explaining that Lisa Simpson told her. “Lisa said she doesn’t mean it as a compliment.”
Marge Simpson added that as an “ordinary suburban housewife,” she was “starting to feel a little disrespected.” And so I am, Marge, so am I. Marge represents the patient wife who is never one to disrespect others, while never turning a blind eye to injustice. Case in point, when she became a police officer in ‘The Springfield Connection’ and arrested her own husband for flouting the law.
Marge closes with “I teach my children not to name call Jenna. I was gonna say I’m pissed off, but I’m afraid they’d bleep it.”
Kamala Harris is already copping the name-calling and backlash from her opponents. Unfortunately, this is expected still in this day and age but Marge Simpson’s restraint (while fictional) is a breath of fresh air.
Anyway, I just think it’s neat.
