An update has been shared on Marvel star Jeremy Renner’s current condition, with a friend saying that “it’s much worse than anyone knows.”

Renner, who plays Marvel superhero Hawkeye, was critically injured in a  snow ploughing accident in Reno, Nevada on New Year’s Day. The actor’s leg was run over by his snow plough, otherwise known as a snow cat, which caused him to lose a “tremendous” amount of blood.

Fortunately, Renner survived and was airlifted to hospital for immediate surgery. However, weeks after the accident the source tells Radar Online about the extent of the actor’s injuries.

“Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there,” they said, adding: “The right side of Jeremy’s chest was crushed, and his upper torso had collapsed. He also had a bad head wound that was bleeding and a leg injury.”

The added, “He knew he was in bad shape and that he might not make it out of this.”

The source said that Renner has had two surgeries and “will likely require more in the weeks ahead on his leg.”

“Doctors tend to space out operations to allow time for the body’s natural healing process to kick in, and that’s the case here,” they told the publication.

They added: “He’s a fighter, and he’s determined to get through this.”

Three days after the accident, Renner shared a brief update from his hospital bed. “Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all,” he wrote on Instagram.

Shortly after the photo was posted, well-wishes flooded in from Renner’s current and former co-stars.

“Continued prayers your way brutha,” Chris Pratt penned, while Taika Waititi said, “My brother I love you.”

Isla Fisher wrote, “Phew! I’m so happy you made this post. Sending you so much love and healing energy. We love you.”

A spokesperson for Renner also released a statement about the severity of his injuries.

“We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023,” it began.

“He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.”

The statement continued, “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families,” his rep continued.

“They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
