It has been announced that masks will no longer be mandatory for flights within Australia starting from Friday 9th September.

The prime minister and state and territory leaders agreed to remove the mandate for domestic flights, and have reduced isolation time from seven to five days for Australians who return a positive COVID result.

In the case of international flights, whether or not a mask is required will depend on the airline’s rules, as well as the destination.

In addition to domestic locations, QANTAS had said that masks aren’t required on many of their popular routes, including flights to London, Rome and the USA.

Similarly so, Singapore Airlines no longer requires face masks to be worn “unless they are travelling to or from destinations that require a face mask.”

In Australia, masks within airports were declared optional in mid-June, however, they were still required to be worn during the flight.

The welcome news actually falls in line with two huge flight sales that launched this week. On Tuesday night, Virgin announced a promo offering hundreds of flights to destinations around the country, and to plenty of fancy international countries and cities. Travellers can lock in dirt-cheap flights to destinations like Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa and, of course, Bali.

Speaking of the exciting flight sale, a Virgin Australia spokesperson told news.com.au: “We are incredibly focused on providing Australians with excellent value airfares and we’re pleased to have launched over 1 million sale fares to popular destinations, including Bali, Fiji and the Gold Coast from as low as $49, which we know will be welcome news for travellers looking to plan a summer holiday.”
