Matthew Lewis has recalled the career advice he received from the late Alan Rickman on their final day of shooting Harry Potter together.

Appearing on the Inside of You podcast (via NME), Lewis, who played Nevile Longbottom in the beloved series, detailed his visit to Rickman’s trailer to express his gratitude for their time together.

“I went to his trailer…and I just said to him, ‘Hey, I know it’s your last day, and I just wanted to say this has been incredible to have worked with you for this long,” he began.

“I just want to say thank you for allowing me to work with you for 10 years and not ever shouting at me or treating any of us as anything less than your equal.”

Touching on Rickman’s reaction, Lewis continued: “He was like, ‘Come on in.’ And he put the kettle on, and we had a cup of tea, and we just chatted about what I was going to do in my career going forward and what he recommended I do.”

Lewis went on to call Alan Rickman “incredible” and said he was previously “terrified” of him.

Fellow Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe previously described Rickman as “one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry.”

“He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter,” Radcliffe wrote on Facebook shortly after Rickman’s 2016 death.

“I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t have to do that.”
