McDonald’s has added several new permanent chicken items to its menu and KFC is probably feeling a little nervous right now.
While Pizza Hut may be doing the vegan thing, McDonald’s is going in the opposite direction and leaning into the meat thing by adding a bunch of permanent chicken options to its menu.
The new Macca’s chicken range sees the return of the McSpicy (a Macca’s all-time great), and brand new items that include the Parmi Burger, Chicken McPieces, Spicy Shaker McPieces, and Chicken Salt Shaker Fries.
Lovers of spicy food are going to have a field day with the McSpicy while the rest cater for the rest of the chicken-loving crowd.
Our resident Brag chicken burger expert trialed the Parmi Burger and reports that it is identical in size and ingredients to the KFC Zinger Burger. However, they prefer the Parmi Burger’s use of hot sauce over the Zinger’s mayo so that’s a thumbs up for Macca’s.
As for the Chicken McPieces, our reviewer states that it is basically the McDonald’s version of KFC Popcorn Chicken, which is to say that it is pretty damn good and a more than adequate substitute should the Colonel be too far of a trek for those hungry for some fast food chicken snacks.
And the Chicken Salt Shaker Fries are, well, exactly as it says on the tin – chips slathered in chicken salt. Simple yet delicious.

Just to, ahem, spice things up for everyone, McDonald’s is throwing in a free small fries and coke with any McSpicy or Parmi Burger purchase right now. That’s as good of a deal as you’re going to get.
Now one has to wonder whether Hungry Jack’s will release a bunch of similar-looking chicken menu items in the near future.
