Bachelor In Paradise star Megan Marx has opened up about being diagnosed with a rare and debilitating neurological condition.

Bachelor In Paradise star Megan Marx has revealed that she was recently diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA6), a rare and debilitating neurological condition that hinders movement.

Marx revealed her diagnosis on Instagram, admitting that the ordeal had been tearful. “Months of waiting for gene test results, I met with the neurologist on Friday,” she said. “S*** news. Diagnosis. Some tears while Keith took over the conversation.”

Marx then added that she was ‘grateful’ for her body right now, and would make the most of it before ‘neurological degeneration attempts to some of me from me’. “All the yays for love making and skinny dipping and hiking and painting and food-ing and bad dancing and awful conversations at bars.” she said.

“Actually feeling grateful altogether. Many have worse diagnoses. Just some processing to do. Lots of living to do.” she added.

Marx also revealed that the genetic condition cannot be cured, and that she had delayed testing out of fear after watching her father face it. “I kept putting off testing too – not sure if it’s that beneficial knowing since it can’t be treated … My Pop suffered pretty bad with it (couldn’t swallow properly, walk or talk properly), so hard staring down the lens of that.” she said.

Marx also got in a bit of a spat with some commenters, who suggested she quit smoking: “Ha ha you’re an asshole. Fyi everyone I am a non-smoker!”

In November, Marx was criticised for calling ADHD an ‘influencer trend’. When a fan asked her the question, Marx posted a video of her saying: “I do think that ADHD diagnosis, there’s a possibility it could be a little bit of a trend. I think it’s, there’s a few things that are interesting to me. I mean, there’s ADHD as a proper neurodevelopmental cognitive disorder, right? And then there’s ADHD that could be brought on by some environmental factors.”

She then added: “But, who doesn’t have problems concentrating on work, who doesn’t have problems? I also wonder about all these influences that are being diagnosed and medicated for ADHD that have suddenly lost a lot of weight. I think this is interesting.”

This reportedly did not go down well with the internet – Marx later revealed she got death threats for her words.
