TLDR: Bernie Sanders attended Joe Biden’s inauguration with his classic mitten-clad nonchalance, and the internet obviously is here for it.

We are once again asking Bernie Sanders to please never stop blessing us with meme-worthy content. Between going viral for, well, the above phrase, and basically predicting the shitshow that became of the US elections, The US Senator has become somewhat of a Gen-Z icon.

On January 20th, Sanders made an appearance at Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington DC. Well, long story short, he stole the show.

Amidst a sea of monochromatic designer coats, the US Senator stood out with his very practical sense of fashion. He was clad in the now-classic “I am once again asking” jacket, mittens (reportedly made by a teacher in Vermont), and an air of nonchalance.

Needless to say, the internet loved it.

Here’s the internet’s favorite Sanders embodying us on a Monday morning.

Here’s us guessing what he might have been thinking.

But, that’s not all! Here are some more hot takes people had for his look.

Here is him as the eighth member of BTS:

What kind of feelings did he want to share here?

Truly an icon:
Even the New York City Subway joined in:
And then there was the Bernie Sanders in places thread:

The memes aside, Sanders mittens’ turned out to be reflection of his down-to-Earth personality, as was clarified by the teacher who made them.

“The fact that these mittens, which were made from recycled and repurposed materials, made it to the national stage is really a shoutout to Vermont. I’m really proud that he took them to DC, and that he was there for this historic moment,” Jen Eliis told nbcboston.com.

Sanders’ other accessory, a manila envelope, also became the topic of chatter. Many thought he was a grandpa stopping by the inauguration on the way to pick up a prescription. Alas, it only contained his tickets to the ceremony.
