The 2021 Met Gala has officially kicked off this year and already the anticipation levels are running high.

With New York City having just wrapped up a triumphant return to New York Fashion Week, all eyes are now on the Metropolitan Museum Of Art. Will this year’s event bring us some next level outfits? Or will it flop?

This year’s theme is American Fashion, with Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton saying that it’s “undergoing a renaissance” and that right now, “young American designers at the vanguard of discussions around diversity, inclusion, sustainability and conscious creativity.”

On the menu front, this year the offerings are entirely vegan, with only plant-based dishes being plated up. The meals have been curated by ten New York-based chefs and influencers.

And there’s great news for all of us who didn’t cop an invite to fashion’s night of nights. While we won’t be able to taste-test the meals ourselves, we will be able to get in on the action in a fly-on-the-wall style.

For the first time ever in the event’s history, an actual livestream event has been set up on the red carpet runway, meaning that we can see all of the looks in real time.

This is a pretty big move for the Met Gala, but not a total out of place one considering the past year has been synonmous with livestreams and Zoom calls.
