Transformers director Michael Bay, said he would be interested in helming a superhero movie but only on one condition.
Michael Bay, who has directed films such as Transformers, Bad Boys, and Armageddon says that he’s interested in superhero films but only if he gets full creative responsibility over making his own world with them. His sentiments state that he doesn’t want to direct a film that’s part of a larger universe and that he’d rather create a franchise from scratch.
It’s interesting that Bay is trying to play the part of the coveted director, as his movie franchise with the most entries, the Transformer films at five movies, have an average critique score on Rotten Tomatoes of 29%.
His movies are also infamous for being stuffed full of excessive product placement, loads of American flags, nonsensical explosions, and stereotypes that objectify women and demean minority groups. With all that being said, it’s surprising that Bay thinks Marvel would want to give him a movie, let alone an entire universe of films.
To be fair, most of these films aren’t Oscar bait. They’re supposed to be fun and entertaining, but that mark is often missed when the viewer is bombarded with Michael Bay’isms until they’re left gasping for air.
“It’s not that I’m not interested in Marvel,” Bay told ComicBook.com. “As Ridley Scott says, the most complicated thing for a director and the most fun thing for a director is to build the world.”
“I’m not the guy to go into Lucas’ Star Wars and do Star Wars Five,” Bay said. “That’s not me. I’m not the one to come into Iron Man Seven. I’m not the one to do Batman 10. I want to do my own thing. I would love to do a superhero thing but I want to do it on my own terms and create my own world.”

Michael Bay also made some interesting remarks regarding his upcoming film Ambulance, in which he ragged on the movie’s CGI and even went so far as to call a few scenes in which there is CGI “shit.”
Michael Bay’s new film Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez hits theaters on April 8.
