It’s officially House of the Dragon day! After so much buildup and intrigue, the Game of Thrones prequel premieres today, with Binge and Foxtel both showing it in Australia.

And there’s a local flavour to the show thanks to young Aussie actress Milly Alcock, who’s playing a young Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy’s playing the character as an adult).

And it turns out Alcock had a very relatable reaction to finding out she’d been cast in the high-profile show. As per news.com.au, the 22-year-old turned to wine after the call from her agent.

“It was like 8pm and I was like, ‘Oh sh*t. It’s really late for my agent.’ And he was like, ‘Are you sitting down?’,” she recalled. “I haven’t had many of these phone calls. This is my first, ‘Are you sitting down?’ “He was like, ‘You got it.’ And I just froze outside and then walked back in and was like, ‘Do you have any wine? Can we drink it now?’ So we got drunk.”

While she obviously wanted to spill the beans to her friends and family, Alcock was legally barred from telling anyone about the exciting news. “I mean you can’t tell anyone. Lawsuits, man. Like big lawsuits,” she explained “(But) I called my mum because … It’s your mum. I feel like NDAs … it’s like, if it’s your mum, you can tell them. So that’s what I did.”

House of the Dragon premieres today on Binge and for a welcome change, Aussie viewers will get to see it concurrently with the Northern Hemisphere. The series will also be shown on Foxtel in Australia, but you’ll of course have to have a subscription to one of the streaming platforms to find out how the Targaryens are doing.

That’s why it’s helpful that Binge is currently offering a 14-day free trial for new customers, and Foxtel Now also has a 10-day free trial on offer. After the first episode debuts next Monday, the next nine episodes of House of the Dragon will then hit the streaming platforms weekly on the same day.
