Don’t condemn your mum to a joyless eggs benedict at a soulless, sensory-overload inducing cafe this Mother’s Day. The woman that raised you deserves more than a shrivelled morsel of wimpy spinach.

Whilst I think most of these commercialized holiday’s are a wankfest, I will take any opportunity life hands me to celebrate my gorgine mother. We’re taking a look at a bunch of the best lunch’s Sydney has to offer this Sunday — from the skint to the silk-stocking.

Skint

If you also find yourself in the cruel predicament of being skint this Mother’s Day, fear not, there are a bunch of gorgeous things you can do for your darling mother to celebrate.

P&V Paddington

Newtown’s esteemed wine and liquor merchants P&V recently opened up shop in Paddington. The new joint is the perfect spot to sink a few fine vinos in the waning afternoon sun. There’s just a stunning vibe to the place that I can’t quite put my finger on, it’s unpretentious, the staff are all uber helpful deadset legends and the wine!!!! the wine!!!!!!!!!

If their lovely fairy light-strew courtyard is full, grab a bottle or two of the good stuff and having an impromptu park picnic.

On the topic of park picnics

Eating at restaurants is fabulous darling!! just so chic!! though sometimes being around people is exhausting. I am a uuuuuuuuuugeeeee advocate for downing a delicious Bahn Mi/Indian kebab and sinking a few wines or cocktails (may we direct you to Continental Deli & Bistro’s perfect on-the-go Cosmopolitan) and just lapping up the natural glory of this city.

Beare Park and Arthur McElhone Reserve in Elizabeth Bay are the perfect parks FYI!!!

Kinda decadent

If you didn’t burn through your monthly pay cycle in the first week on a Dyson vacuum cleaner and a fresh balayage, congrats! you probably have a bit of money to burn. Spend it on your mum.

Vegan Yum Cha at Bodhi, Sydney

Bodhi are doing a Yum Cha set lunch menu at $65 a head. The vegan institution are putting forward 12 of their most popular dishes, like plump steamed buns and petit dumplings. It also comes with a complimentary glass of rosé. Clink, clink!

Yellow, Potts Point

Another vegan institution. Art deco heaven baby. This mother’s day Yellow have put together a special 5-course vegan menu available at both lunch and dinner. $85 per person. Decadent.

Lankan Filling Station

$50 set menu! We promise you their egg hoppers will find a way into your dreams.

Silk-stocking

Okay we’re entering bougie territory here!!!! Full transparency I’m going through the press releases in my inbox and relaying the information here. Don’t worry I’m leaving out all those chat and overpriced harbourside restaurants that’ll have you forking out $40 for a vegetarian pasta that definitely uses San Remo…

Sokyo, The Star

Yes baby this is opulence. I think that The Star has literally like the worst vibe in Sydney. There’s some truly evil energy there. Somehow, despite its location, Sokyo manages to avoid all sinister energy.

San Francisco-born chef Chase Kojima carved out his legacy with his string of Nobu restaurants. Sokyo is magnificent. This Mother’s Day the restaurant are offering a set menu for $160pp, including signatures from executive Chef Chase Kojima such as Tuna Umami, Miso Kingfish, DengakuMan with Miso glazed Toothfish, Wagyu Striploin steak and an assortment of Sokyo’s famed sushi.

Fred’s, Paddington

Where the interior is as gorgeous as the food. Fred’s is decadent farm-to-table fare. On Mother’s Day they’re doing a special 4150 four-course menu with Sydney rock oysters, beef tenderloin tagliata, steamed yabby tails and marjolaine.
