An American mum has thrown her daughter an Aldi-themed fourth birthday party. While most kids enjoy Peppa Pig, fingerpainting or some other trivial, non-supermarket-related hobby, four-year-old Saylor loves nothing more than tracking down a classic bargain at the discount grocer. Her passion for the retail giant is so immense, that her mum, Meghan decided to pay tribute to it in Saylor’s birthday party this year.
“Since Saylor could sit in a shopping cart, she’s been coming with me,” Meaghan told Insider. “If I say we are going to the store, the first words out of her mouth are, ‘Aldi, right?’ She loves going on the hunt for deals with me.”
But wait. It gets better.
A birthday to remember
Meaghan didn’t just buy some knock-off brand chips and chocolate and call it a day. The woman went all-out to create the most complete Aldi birthday experience a child could wish for. She baked cookies with discounted prices on them. She created bespoke “Aldi Finds” signs. She paid homage to the chain’s famous discount wines. She made Aldi-style lolly bags because presumably all of Saylor’s friends love Aldi as much as she does.
As for Saylor’s birthday outfit, Meaghan found a local seamtress through Facebook. She had the store’s logo stitched into a grey dress to emulate the American Aldi uniform. Because why not.
It is unclear whether American Aldis have the weird, miscellaneous centre aisle and whether that was incorporated into Saylor’s birthday party. It is also not known whether guests were made to line up outside the door of the house to re-enact Aldi’s famous checkout queues.
