In extremely menacing news, over fifty native corella birds have died overnight after they fell from the sky in Adelaide. The birds began dropping from the sky at a soccer oval in One Tree Hill, bleeding from their eyes and beaks.

Volunteers from Casper’s Bird Rescue stayed at the sight until 11 pm collecting the 58 injured birds and attempting to save them. Unfortunately, none of the birds survived.

Vet’s treating the birds believe that they may have been poisoned, but an official necropsy is yet to be performed.

Young students from One Tree Hill Primary School witnessed the incident and have reportedly been left “very upset” at the scene.

“Update: sad news this morning with no survivors from all that have been collected. many are on the ground this morning as well,” the school shared in a Facebook post.

“The children in vacation care were very upset at the scene of birds falling from the sky and in pain with blood coming out of their mouths.

“The children were so caring and wanted to make sure the birds were getting some help.”

A spokesperson for Playford Council told Yahoo News Australia that the council had employed “non-lethal strategies” to deal with corellas in the area. The birds are considered to be a menace, known for destroying light fittings, crops and creating excessive noise making it “impossible” for residents to sleep at night.

July has well and truly proved itself to be the month of bizarre bird-related news. Earlier this month, an “exotic” bird was rescued from a highway in the UK. However, local vets determined that the bird was not exotic at all, but rather a seagull that had gotten itself mixed up in turmeric.

In other bird-related news, footage has emerged of a cockatoo in South Africa that has trained itself to bark like a guard dog.
