Fans of Naya Rivera are celebrating the late Glee star’s life with a candlelight vigil that will be held at Lake Piru, California, where the 33-year-old actress drowned after reportedly saving the life of her four-year-old son, Josey.
The vigil will reportedly take place on Saturday at 4780 Piru Canyon Rd, California, and was organised by the account @NayaArmy.
“It’s a little far away mostly to give people that are travelling, time to take off work and be able to be a part of this,” the account wrote. “Time is at 5 since it gets hot but doesn’t mean you can’t be there before. I hope many of you can make it! Share it to those you think might want to go!”
It’s not known yet if Rivera’s family or if any of the late actress’ Glee co-stars are set to attend the memorial, though several of the show’s stars were seen visiting Lake Piru the day Rivera’s body was found – which also happened to be the anniversary of co-star Cory Monteith’s death in 2013 from a drug overdose.
Naya Rivera was first reported missing on July 8 after she took her son out on a boat ride on Lake Piru in California – where several other drownings had previously occurred – and Josey was found sleeping on the boat alone, with no sign of his mother.
Captain Jeremy Paris, who was in charge of the search for Rivera following her disappearance, spoke to ET following the tragic news that the star’s body had been located several days after she had first been reported missing.
“We know that she was out with her 4-year-old boy and she was swimming,” Paris said at the time. “We know he was wearing a life vest and she wasn’t. We know that she was able to, and she did, assist him onto the boat. And then for some unknown reason – and I don’t think we will ever know – she was not able to get on the boat herself.”
