“There is a revolution taking the cooking world by storm,” says the voice-over for a new Netflix original Cooked With Cannabis show. There sure is, because this new show will see contestants cook-off against each other to see who is the king of cooking with cannabis.
The new show crosses the paths of two big demographics, stoners and foodies, in style cook-off. In terms of the format, think less Masterchef and more Iron Chef, as each episode will see three professional chefs work around-the-clock to create three-course meals with that key ingredient.
Each episode will also have a theme, ranging from world cuisine to future foot, and there’s even a $10,000 prize in it for the winner.
Stranger still, the show is hosted by Kelis. Yes, as in “my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard” Kelis. She co-hosts with Portland chef Leather Storrs, and each episode seeing the pair joined by a special group of dinner guests (often celebrities) who get to sample each course.
“Cooked with Cannabis is a show where weed is a seasoning rather than the reason. It’s granular, educational, heartfelt and smart,” claimed Storrs in an interview with Food & Wine. Suuuure it is…
Kelis said that being on the show “moved” her heart because [cannabis] is so culturally important.
“In this country, there are so many things that have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, so this could be all fun and games, but you look at it and go, you know what, this is important. People’s lives have been affected in a really positive and negative way, and how do we take some control back?”
