Netflix is coming under fire as former employees announce they were laid off from the editorial staff mere months after being hired.

Netflix and Tudum are being put under the lens of journalists as a large wave of former employees announce they were laid off today, April 28th, after being hired only months ago. Many of the former new hires are POC and/or people who don’t identify as men, who are both underpaid and underrepresented within the industry.

“Intriguing Netflix editorial strategy to hire some of the best entertainment/culture minds in the biz, very specifically court a ton of non-white women with the offer of a truly life-changing amount of money, only to shitcan everyone mere months later… god damn”

“Netflix jerked around a bunch of incredibly talented journalists with the promise of stability in an incredibly unstable industry only to shutter the thing they hired them for less than a year later. I’m furious on their behalf. twitter.com/mariasherm/sta

“Solidarity to everyone laid off by Netflix today after barely six months of their publication even existing.”

“So. I got laid off from Netflix/Tudum today. Media is gonna media even when it’s not technically media, I guess.”

“Uh oh! Looks like I have to do this tweet again. Is anyone hiring? Netflix just laid off my team (my job included). It was an incredible few months and I’m grateful for it but I’m stoked about whatever’s next. Email is in bio.”

“Netflix recruited me seven months ago only to lay me and a bunch of other talented people off today. I’m going to take time off to just exist, so please get in touch if you’ll have editing and content strategy opportunities open after August. [email protected]
