When it seems like we’re supposedly making it out of the woods, we get hit with another COVID reality check.
Now two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Gladys Berejiklian has made a statement, ”Unfortunately, overnight, in addition to those three cases which the public is already aware of, there have been an additional two cases on the northern beaches.”
According to ABC News, the two cases are a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s.
Berejiklian also went on to say that NSW Health has already seen an uptick in testing numbers in the past 24 hours, with ABC News reporting that there has been long lines of people queuing outside a COVID-19 testing clinic at Mona Vale Hospital following the confirmation of the two mystery cases.
The two new cases are being classified as mystery cases as the source of the infection right now is unknown, as there have not been any links to known cases identified at this stage.
These COVID cases are at risk of having exposed others to the virus, having visited a number of places before getting tested, so Berejiklian is encouraging anyone who lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with the mildest of symptoms to get tested.
These two most recent cases were also confirmed just after a van driver who shuttles flight crews around Sydney Airport tested positive to COVID-19. At this point, these cases are being deemed as unrelated.
But, according to ABC News, NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant says that health officials are suspecting that the man may have become infected after coming into contact with international flight crew members.
This means that it’s Sydney’s first locally acquired COVID-19 infection case since the beginning of December.
Here’s hoping that we all get on top of this quick smart so that Sydney’s live music scene can continue to open up.
