The solo exhibition by Sydney-based artist Ella Barclay considers the nature ofourencounters with technology.
Ella Barclay’s I Had To Do It exhibition is equal parts abstract and tangible in its exploration of the sometimes-chaotic physical nature of technology, and how this represents our desire for connectivity with ingrained systems in society.
In representing our relationship with technology as being necessarily messy, Barclay is considering not only the connection and reliance we have on these technologically-enabled systems, but theparallel disconnect of computer systems and the abstract ideas they represent to us as individuals and society overall.
Developed at the Australia Council’s renowned ACME studio in London andholding residence at Casula Powerhouse, the exhibition will guide the viewer on a trajectory through structural and video installation and looped sound in its immersive experience.
The exhibition opening will be made all the more immersive with TheWoozy Jacuzzi, an illuminated cocktail installationwhich forms a participatory durational light installation once dispersed among the viewers.
The exhibition, which opens on Tuesday October 4 from 6pm,is accompanied by a schools programand a performance lecture by the artist. It will run through to Friday November 25. For more information visit UTS GALLERY.
