One of the new The Project hosts has been revealed, after a string of resignations from Carrie Bickmore,  Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar.

Television presenter and journalist Sarah Harris will step in for Carrie Bickmore and because a permanent host when she leaves the show next week.

Speaking of her new venture, Harris said, “this is one of the biggest and best jobs in TV. How could I say no?

“I’m beyond excited to be joining one of Australia’s most iconic and agenda driving shows. The Project does news like no other program in Australia and it’s exactly the kind of fun and fearless TV I love to make.

“I can’t wait to share the desk with Waleed, Hamish, Georgie and the rest of the team. I’m excited to shake it up in the new year!”

Harris will seat up on the panel next to long-time host Waleed Aly. “She’s smart. She’s warm. She’s great fun. That’s the trifecta for The Project. Everyone who’s worked with Sarah raves about her, and I can’t wait to become one of them,” Aly said of his new co-host.

Bickmore quit the project in October and will host her final show on November 30, after 13 years with The Project. She broke down in tears as she told viewers of her decision to leave.

“After 13 years at The Project, I have made the tough decision to finish up hosting the show at the end of the year. It‘s been the hardest decision of my professional life to make this call, but it’s time for a new challenge and my next chapter,” she said.

Lisa Wilkinson quit from the show on Sunday, citing “relentless, targeted toxicity” aimed at her as part of the reason behind her resignation. Last night, Peter Helliar announced he was leaving the popular news show.

“It’s been something on my mind for a while, people will read into the situation however they want to read into it but I feel like I need to create some space for some projects that I want to work on,” he said.

“But (Carrie Bickmore) said that you are glad you‘re leaving the Project while you still love it and I still love the show. I really do. It means a lot to me. It’s done amazing things for me.

“I interviewed Luke Skywalker once. And that meant a lot. And I look forward to see what the show is in the future.”
