You can get away with a lot in Newtown. It’s a place that allows you to be who you really are and the weirder the better.

But, there’s a line as one person discovered, and that line includes hurting residents and attempting to flee the scene.

This morning, a small truck collided with traffic lights on King St right outside Clems. Unfortunately, the crash also collected a wheelchair bound 87-year-old woman who was innocently located on the sidewalk.

It didn’t take long for photos of the crash to appear online, however there as no comment at that point about the driver of the small truck.

NSW Police have since updated the situation, revealing that following the crash a 34-year-old male attempted to run from the scene.

He made it as far as neighbouring Wilson St before several onlookers apprehended him following a brief chase. Before long he was arrested by Newtown police and taken to Royal Price Alfred hospital for mandatory tests.

The 87-year-old victim was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Video of the immediate aftermath is circulating online however having viewed it, The Brag has deemed it inappropriate for publish.

Anyone heading in that direction is being warned of delays and traffic due to road closures still in place as the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit continues to analyse the crime scene.
