OG Wog Boy Nick Giannopoulos has officially confirmed that filming has kicked off in Melbourne for Wog Boy 3.

Announcing the news over social media, Giannopoulos has revealed that the third film will again follow the life of main character, Steve, who is also portrayed by Giannopoulos.

It comes 21 years after the first film in the Australian franchise, which was directed by Aleksi Vellis, was released in cinemas back in 2000.

“It’s amazing how many people have said Wog Boy changed my life… This is for the fans more than anything, they keep asking for another one,” Giannopoulos told The Herald Sun.

“It’s the most often asked question I get when I’m out and about… People just want to laugh again.”

While the film’s fans were a large reason the star decided to go on with a third film, Giannopoulos admitted that his father’s Leonias’ death in January had a significant impact on him pursuing the project.

“…my dad got ill while I was in the middle of writing the script… I read him parts of it and he was laughing and loving it and he said keep going. They’re memories I’ll treasure for the rest of my life,” he told the media outlet.

Also speaking to A Current Affair, Giannopoulos said he began writing the script during lockdown in Melbourne.

“Lockdown was very harsh. So I thought, you know what, that idea that’s been swirling around my head for another Wog Boy film, it’s time to do it. I just sat there at home, locked up, all the way through writing the script,” Giannopoulos said.

Longtime friend and co-star Vince Colosimo also spoke to A Current Affair about again starring in the film alongside the comedy star, calling Nick “a brother”.

“It’s just nice to come back and work with Nick, who’s like a brother,” Colosimo said from the set of The Wog Boy 3 in inner-city Melbourne.

“We go back a long time now, 30 years now nearly, if not more.”

Along with Giannopoulos, the flick has lined up an all-star cast, with Vince Colosimo, Home And Away’s Sarah Roberts, Havana Brown, and comedians Sooshi Mango set to star in the film.

Wog Boy 3 will hit cinemas in 2022.
