Nicolas Cage is set to host the forthcoming Netflix docu-series, History of Swear Words. Set to land on the platform on January 5th.
The six-episode series will feature 20-minute episodes that explore the most beloved naughty words in history. Cage will sit down with etymologist’s, pop culture-buffs, historians and entertainers in an attempt to unpack the cultural impact of curses like: “fuck,” “shit,” “bitch,” “dick,” “pussy” and “damn.”
There will be a smorgasbord of guest appearances from the likes of DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, Joel Kim Booster, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
As Deadline report, experts enlisted to help unpack the history of cussing include cognitive scientist and author of What the F Benjamin Bergen, linguist Anne Charity Hudley, film critic Elvis Mitchell, professor of feminist studies Mireille Miller-Young, author of Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing Melissa Mohr and Word by Word author Kory Stamper.
The series is the brainchild of Funny or Die and B17 Entertainment.
