Following on from the announcement that the great Mortal Kombat franchise would be filming their next motion picture instalment in the City Of Churches, a casting call has popped up online seeking extras to star in the film. The descriptions are broad and inclusive with just about the only restriction being you must be an Adelaide resident.
The Major Casting Call was first posted yesterday, with casting happening on August 17th, so there’s plenty of time to get your affairs in order. The call teases “hundreds of roles for people aged between 18-50”, and is keen to attract applications of “all ages, shapes, sizes and ethnicities.”
The casting lists potential roles for Japanese men, women and children over the age of 5, martial artists of Asian descent, “die-hard” MMA and footy fans, professional bodybuilders, people with tattoos and piercings, with extra emphasis placed on roles for indigenous Australians and people of African, Hispanic or Latino descent.
Other than the fact it’s being filmed in South Australia, not a lot is known about the forthcoming Mortal Kombat film. It was reported shortly after the project was announced that the plot will take influence from the video game series, but would largely be its own stand along thing.
ABC reported that a cool $70 million is expected to be pumped into the local economy on account of the major production with 580 local jobs created, and as such Executive producer E.Bennett Walsh has flagged this as the “biggest production that’s ever been in Adelaide.”
Filming is expected to kick off between September and December at various locations around the state which puts the release date at a tentative ‘not too distant future’.
